Difference Between metals and non metals
⋅
Non-metals
These are the metals which are used instead of iron for machinery and other equipment. They are not as heavy as ferrous metals. And even they are less corrosive and softer than them. They need less pressure to mold into any form. They are in high demand these days due to above advantages. Ex; Aluminium, lead, copper. Like ferrous metals, they are also good conductors of heat and electricity.
Physical properties of non-metals
• Poor conductors of electricity and heat
• Non-Ductile metals
• Brittle solids
• May be solids, liquids or gases at room temperature
• These are not sonorous
• Transparent
Chemical properties of non-metals•
• Generally, contain5-8 electrons in the outer shell
• Readily loose or gain valence electrons
• Form acidic oxides
• High electronegative elements
• Great oxidizing agents
